A Brief History
David Sicherman. Two words, one short, one long, both of monumental importance to the world of show business.
David Sicherman. The name brings joy to the hearts of the many who know it well, fear to the hearts of the few who know it well enough.
David Sicherman. He was raised to be a child and grew to be a man-child.
David Sicherman. The bright light of truth, shining in isolation across the dark sea of mistruth that is entertainment.
David Sicherman.
David Sicherman was born to Jacob and
Lisette Sicherman on August, 2 1974. Those present say the Sicherman "Miracle
Baby" was born with a clarinet in hand, and was halfway through Pennsylvania
6-5000 when Lisette finally got the Caesarean section she'd been praying
for.
Inside of six months he was talking,
and a month later writing vicious hate mail to CBS executives.
He was a stunning child, who gained his first notices as the "Drugs made me this way" baby in a series of public- service announcements in 1976. As with many great talents, it took another great talent to bring him to his fullest potential. Seeing the attention given the Sicherman baby, Jacob's brother Barnaby bought him from his parents for thirty head of cattle.
Barnaby then sold David to the Manhattan Theater Company for
$23,000. Thus the Sicherman star was born, and while he would have many other
dealings with his uncle Barnaby from that day on, the driving force behind his
success would be
his disarming smile
and unsettling virtuosity as a performer.
Over the years, Sicherman would star in many films, plays, and television series, but his greatest success would be in his most natural role: the perennial Hollywood personality. He has played host to such events as the daytime Emmy awards, the nighttime Grammy awards, and the bedtime Obie awards. Always politically involved, he could regularly be found at Hollywood fundraisers and soup kitchens alike.
Working constantly both within his occupation and without it for eleven years, by 1988 Sicherman was exhausted and dehydrated. In a press conference on the steps of the Los Angeles county courthouse, he announced his retirement from show business. For the nine years that followed, he devoted his time to charitable efforts and the raising of his three children, Zacharia, Zach, and Z, all of whom are ferrets.
In 1992 he disappeared completely,
leaving the entertainment community shocked and bemused. Despite several dollars
spent in trying to find him, Sicherman had rendered himself unfindable.
Hollywood studios and Broadway producers alike attempted to go about their daily
routines,
but the face of show
business had a hole in it as obvious as a mouth. Then Sicherman
returned.
His announcement that he had gone abroad to study acting found producers clamoring for him, but the announcement that he had contracted herpes during the course of that study forced them to clamor from a distance. Sicherman had become more discerning in the choice of what projects he would take on, and began writing and producing on his own. Today he is the author of a great many works for the stage, as well as front man for his band, the Rock and Roll City Rockers. His recent announcement that he will be making a return to the New York stage has left theater goers stunned, and everyone connected with show business agrees that his star now shines brighter than a thousand suns.
