In Angels Run, Little Boys Work,
Sicherman proved to the world that he was more than just a pretty face. The
chemistry between himself and Nicholas (Adam Rich had legally changed his name
simply to Nicholas the previous year) was so dynamic that most people in
Hollywood thought they were looking at the new Scott Baio and Willie Aimes.
Unfortunately, those same
people immediately set out to create a new vehicle for Baio and Aimes, leaving
"Angels" as the only work Sicherman and Nicholas ever did together.
As for his other costar, Missy Gold, while the work she did later in Benson was considered some of the finest child acting of the week, even she saw a special spark in the performance of David and Nicholas.
"Who?" she told the Miami Herald in 1993.
Angels Run, Little Boys Work was, however, the first of many collaborations between Sicherman and Dr. F.N. Ministry. The success of the film allowed Ministry to realize his dream of forming an evangelical cable channel, but his poor handling of funds eventually left him bankrupt.
In later years Ministry would be called upon to rescue and resuscitate Sicherman's career time after time after time.
"There did come a point where it was just silly." Ministry says. "By the end I was living in a cardboard box and eating out of dumpsters just so I could support my habit of keeping that kid working. Did he ever thank me? Never. The occasional package of Top Ramen would have been thanks enough for me. But no."
